In IVF egg donation process, a fertile woman donates an egg, or oocyte, to another woman who is infertile or not able to conceive. It is a part of latest assisted reproductive technology, or ART. Egg donation helps those women who cannot use their own eggs, including ovarian failure, avoiding congenital anomalies in the fetus, or because of age factor. In this procedure, a fertility specialist retrieves eggs from the donor, fertilize them with husband’s sperm in a laboratory, and then transfer the resulting embryos into the recipient's uterus. Doctors do this using an implantation procedure, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Steps of Egg Donation 1. Egg donor screening 2. Egg donor matching 3. Suppression and Ovarian Stimulation for the Egg Donor 4. Endometrial Lining Development for the Recipient 5. Triggering Ovulation and Egg Retrieval for the Egg Donor 6. Fertilization and Embryo Transfer to the Recipient 7. Post-Retrieval Checkup for the Donor and Pregnancy Tests for the Recipient
